How do I convince my parents to allow me a dog?

Hi, I’ve read a lot of questions about ways to convince your parents to allow you have a dog but when I read them I quickly notice a pattern of deceit and when they’re told to act mature for the pet it’s really all being put on.

Two years ago I had a 4 year old Labrador Retriever. He wasn’t really mine because my dad bought him but I would often bring him for walks etc. He died two years ago unfortunately… Afterwards (Up until now) I’ve never thought in the slightest of having a new dog.

However recently I’ve been doing my "homework" on puppies. I’ve read two books and visited many internet forums thus far. I believe I’m ready to actually care for a dog myself and even if I don’t do a great job with raising him/her, I’m sure I will in the future.

There’s a problem though as I’m afraid if I ask my parents (I’m 16) they’ll say no. Once they say no; that’s it, I won’t dare ask again… lol.

So I need help with talking to them about it… I have the finance to fund the dog (Food, dog beds, crates etc) and to buy the actual dog itself.

Crate Training question-What to use to cover the cold floor?

I adopted 2 puppies recently. They are 12 weeks old. The one is doing fine in her crate & not going to the bathroom in it. Her sister, is not. Despite us going home during lunch breaks, she still manages to urinate in her crate during the day (she holds it all night for us). We had towels on the bottom of the crates, but the internet says to remove all "absorbant" things from the crate. So I was wondering what I should use instead of a towel for the cold, metal floor of the crate?

Any suggestions would be helpful

Does anyone else agree that crate training is stupid?

I live on a farm with 10 dogs and not ONE of them has been crate trained and not ONE of them has a problem with it. We got some as puppies, some as young adults, and some as older dogs. Crate training is for lazy people who dont want to deal with the dog so they stick it in the crate…Does ANYONE agree with me???
NO all of our dogs stay inside with us, and we do work. I HATE city people who think we just sit here all day

Do you think that crate training is wrong?

My fiance and I recently got our first dog (though we have been around dogs our entire lives this is OUR first dog). We are crate training her giving her tons of exercise and taking her to the dog park near our house almost every day to get her use to other dogs and other people.

One day while at the dog park we were talking with lady about our dogs and what not. We mentioned that we are crate training her and that she very rarely has accidents in the house or in her crate. The lady was completely repulsed by us "shoving our dog in a small crate for hours upon end". She had a 2 year old lab who she never crate trained and who is still not house broken.

We have done a ton of research on training puppies and we feel as if crate training is the way to go, if done correctly, which I believe we are. My question to you is not a question as much as opinion. I want to know what your opinion on crate training dogs is. If you want to add success or horror stories please do so.
Let me clarify. I don’t think crate training is wrong. I know that lady was an idiot. I honestly just wanted to open a discussion about the matter. The most Allie (our dog) is in her crate is 4 hours at a time and that is rare. Both my fiance and I come home on our lunches and we have different enough schedules that she is rarely left in the crate for more than 2 or 3 hours.

When can I start crate training our little lab puppy?

Our lab puppy is seven weeks old. I know that’s a week or two so shy of when you are supposed to take home puppies, but this was an exception….I really want to start crate training her but have read she is still too little. So if that’s the case, and she is still too young, what am I supposed to do mean time?

Is it ok to start crate training my dogs who are 4 and almost two? Will it work?

I just moved into a new home with two other people. I want to start crate training my two dogs. I feel it would be better cause now I just leave them in my room when I go to work. Will it be more difficult to do so since they are not puppies? I want to crate train them for when I am gone to work they can be in there, so at night they will still sleep with me. Will that be ok ?
