Puppy Homeschool: Crate Training Fun

Gomez, a three year old Basset Hound, was scared of being crated, so I’ve been training him to run happily into his crate. At this point I’m luring him into a down once he’s in the crate. The next step will be to require him to down automatically when he goes in.

Crate training?

I have a silly question in regards to crate training … we’ve got our dog crate trained at night and I’ve recently started putting her in it during certain periods of the day … my question is, should her food and water be put in the crate too? Should the water be in there all the time? Because she knocks it over and soaks her dog bed!!!
Thanks for your responses!

Crate Training at the Torrance Puppy Kindergarten Dog Training Center

Around 1pm is feeding time at the puppy kindergarten and then the dogs get some crate training and take their afternoon naps in their crates. When done properly, the dogs associate their cates with comfort and security and eagerly hop in to take their naps or to travel safely in cars. Crate training is also used as a house breaking and potty training method.

Crate training a Yorkie, can the crate be too large?

We are about to start to attempt crate trainging our Yorkie. He is 12 wks old. I have a crate that I used for my German Shepherd. Its a standard size big dog crate. I was wondering if the size of the crate matters when crate training. Also, does anyone have any tips, its been 8 years since I crate trained my German Shepherd, and he was SIMPLE to train. The yorkie seems to pee or poop on the go and keeps on bouncing.

Buying a Dog, but roommate opposes.?

I already have one dog, who was a total nightmare potty training- my roommate was witness to this. I am looking into adding a second dog to my home, but wanted to get my roommates approval first. She said she wasn’t thrilled at the idea of a young dog who is not potty trained. I respect her opinion, but should I say no to the new dog solely on her wishes? We have seven months left on the lease. The dog is about 12 weeks old. She is female, so I am hoping crate training will go easier with her than my current male (who came from a shelter, the new dog is from a breeder). I would hate to pass up this opportunity to get a dog the same breed as my current one and so close to the same age. I am looking for him a female companion.
